Imported paper from Southeast Asia to take up 31.13%

Southeast Asia is now becoming an important market of Vietnam Paper industry. In 2018, this market accounted for 31.13% of the total import volume of our country.

Among the markets supplying paper for Vietnam, Southeast Asian countries have accounted for over 31% of the total import volume of the country, reaching 644.5 thousand tons, valued at USD 685.1 million, up 3.33% in quantity and 12.74% in value, the average price increased by 9.11% to USD 1.062,86 / ton.

In particular, the Chinese market accounted for 18.74%, reaching 388.1 thousand tons, valued at USD 329.26 million, decreasing by 4.47% in volume but increasing by 3.49% of the value compared to the previous year. The average import price was US $ 848.23 / ton, up 8.33%. In a particular 12/2018, imports reached 57.8 thousand tons, worth 29.21 million USD, up 78.65% in volume but down 0.16% in value, the average import price was 504.7 USD / tons, down 44.12% compared to 11/2018.

Japan is also an important import market for the Vietnamese Paper Industry when reaching 330.6 thousand tons, worth USD 250.7 million, up 24.45% in volume and 35.18% in value, the average import price of 758.26 USD / ton, an increase of 8.63%. Other markets to mention include Korea, India, Finland, America, etc.

The year 2018 showed that the amount of imported paper from the markets generally had a sharp decline (61%), particularly the volume of imports from France dropped the most by 90.22%. Remarkably, our country in the past year has increased imports from India, an increase of 3.1 times (up 214.59%) compared to 2017.
