Trend of using packaging paper is predicted to increase by over 15%

In Vietnam’s Paper Industry Policy Solutions Towards Sustainable Development Workshop which took place in 10/2018 in Ha Noi, the significance and the growth potential of paper industry in Vietnam’s economy were emphasized, especially using packaging paper is forecasted to be a growing trend in the next 10 years.

The significance of paper industry in general

Vietnam’s Paper Industry Policy Solutions Towards Sustainable Development Workshop, held by Pulp and Paper Association and Ministry of Industry and Trade Vietnam, took place on 16th October 2018 in Ha Noi. The participants of the workshop include many representatives from state agencies, functional agencies, experts as well as media agencies.

At this workshop, the vital role of paper industry in Vietnam was emphasized. Paper and paper-made products have had big influences on contributing to the development of various fields such as consumption, research, art, printing, culture, society and so on. Especially, packaging paper now is highly appreciated on the market due to the fact that this is an indispensable product in exports, and at the same time, other packaging types are being replaced by the trend of using packaging paper.

The current paper industry includes nearly 300 enterprises, among which there are about 20 enterprises with the production scale of at least 100 thousand tonnes/year, while others are small and medium enterprises. Moreover, the paper industry’s average growth of 11% during 2000- 2007 and of 16% during 2007 – 2017 showed its potential, making a major contribution to the economic development.

The potentials of paper industry in particular

The potentials of packaging paper industry is obvious. Specifically, the demand for paper consumption in the next years is forecasted to increase from 8-10%/year. Also, Vietnam each year needs to import nearly 2 million tonnes of paper to meet domestic and exporting demands.

Mr Hoang Trung Son, Vice Chairman of Vietnam Pulp and Paper Association, said that paper industry in Vietnam is fast-growing, and in the next 10 years this growth can continue at over 10%, especially with packaging paper being over 15%.
